Wednesday, May 3rd:

Good morning, Brothers!

Here’s what’s coming up this month at Washington Lodge 70:

Monday, 5/8: Stated Communication, 7:30pm. We will have a presentation by Br. Steve Hudson called “The Lodge as a Memory Place”. Here is a brief description from Brother Hudson:

The second set of Statutes of Freemasonry written by William Schaw in 1599 states that “[T]he Warden of the Lodge. . . shall take trial of the art of memory and science thereof of every fellow craft and every apprentice according to their vocation and in case that they have lost any point thereof. . . pay the penalty as follows for their slothfulness. . . .”.

This refers not to a general ability to memorize but to a set of ancient formal mind training known as the Ars Memorativa.  These techniques have recently surged into popular culture through the depiction of their use of them by Sherlock Holmes, Hannibal Lecter and  others in the form of the ‘Mind Palace’ or ‘Memory Palace’.

I will demonstrate and explain these techniques and show how they are applicable to Masonry.

Brother Officers, we will meet prior to this communication at 6:30pm to discuss our current degree schedule.

Also, I would like to “pass the hat” to further grease the wheels for our defibrillator fundraising, which was so graciously seeded by Composite Lodge 28. So please consider putting a few dollars in the hat to help out!

This will be open to Brothers and their Ladies! If you will joining us, please RSVP with this form.

Happy February, Brothers!

Coming up this month at Washington Lodge 70:

Monday, February 6 – Teaming up with our Brothers Composite Lodge 28 in Suffield, we are going to blitz Valley Lodge 28 in Simsbury, located at 991 Hopmeadow St, Simsbury. This is unbeknownst to the Brothers at Valley Lodge, so the plan is to show up just after they start to open at 7:30pm, then knock to seek admission…when they let us in, they will be surprised by a stream of visiting Brothers! This is usually an off-week for us, but please consider joining in the fun. If you would like to meet at our Lodge and arrange carpools, you are welcome to, otherwise, we’ll meet up at Valley Lodge.

Monday, February 13 – Stated Communication, 7:30PM. During this meeting, we will enjoy a presentation by WB Chuck Landau from Sequin-Level 140 in Newington entitled, “The Qabalah and the Masonic Lodge”. This will be the first a few guest lecturers I have planned for this year, and I expect we will have several visitors for this event. Please join us as we continue to pursue more light in Masonry.

Monday, February 27 – Past Master’s Master Mason Degree, 5:30PM. Join us in cheering on the degree team consisting of your favorite WL70 Past Masters as they present the Master Mason Degree for our current candidates. It’s been a while since we’ve held a MM degree, note the start time of 5:30PM. We will serve dinner at the half, TBA. Please RSVP using this form. After completing the form, click “submit”, then you are done!

The new website for the Grand Lodge of CT is now up, click here to check it out! There is still work to be done, the site is not currently at 100%.
The new Washington Lodge 70 website is up, but still needs some updating and tweaking, which I am working on. Check that out here. I am working on bringing over content from the old site. Be sure to look at the calendar page, as that is up to date. If you have any suggestions or requests for our site, please let me know!

I will be sending out a survey in the next day or two that I am using to gather some information about our Lodge and how we can improve. Please consider offering your input by completing the form. I will share the results with you in Lodge when it has been completed. I will send it separately from this email.

I will also be sending a form outlining the events for the year asking for events you would like to assist with. More explanation will be forthcoming.

Thank you for your input! See you on Monday!
